About
I’m Anne Marie Cruz, a writer and editor who love love loves food. Sandwich Surprise is my way of bringing a little culinary cheer to friends, family and other fans of food. I whip up fun sandwiches and spring them on folks, sharing the recipes and experiences here.
Along with my blog, I co-write and edit books with celebrities and historical figures. I recently wrote the 2014 PEOPLE special collector’s book about Miley Cyrus, Mad for Miley!
I’m also a magazine contributor who spent years as a PEOPLE editor and a senior reporter for ESPN The Magazine. Those dream jobs gave me the chance to travel and eat around the world, while writing, reporting and editing stories about hundreds of celebs, such as Adele, Beyoncé, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher, Bret Michaels, Taylor Swift, Bob Barker, Tony Bennett, Madonna, and Venus and Serena Williams.
Perhaps if I Sandwich Surprise you, I can share a story or two with you!
Hi! You’ve got some really great recipes over here. My mother in law works with your mom and shared your blog. Can’t wait to see more!
Very cool! Thanks for checking my sandwiches out. Your site is awesome — it’s inspired me to update and add features to mine. 🙂
Dear ann marie,
I have had a 14 year bone to pick with you. I am thrilled to see you’re in the blogging world. Seems like a real destitute website. Like a poor mans recipe.com. Those were similar to the petty rude remarks made in 2002 about the Oakland Zoo. Check out your drivel of writing and let me know how the 23,000 twitter followers and 15 year old student section is doing. Keep up the great work!
Wow — thanks for writing, Matt. Just now, I went back and read the piece you’re referring to, and you’re absolutely right. There was no reason to take a cheap shot at the Oakland Zoo. I had no idea how belittling that story sounded. In fact, if I were writing about those games now, I hope I would have celebrated what you and Zach created back then — a growing group of ardent Pitt fans during a time when the student body had yet to realize its power. I can’t believe I failed to see that.
Also, I just read the articles from last year about the Zoo making Petersen one of the toughest places to play for road teams. Congrats! It’s the logical result of the efforts you were making 14 years ago. Anyway, please accept my sincere apologies (would you believe, I’m now married to someone from the ‘Burgh?), and good luck with everything.
